Testimonials and Recognitions

With thanks for your helpful services

When COVID shut down my husband’s Alzheimer support group in Burnaby, Fred lost an important focus in his life, that of meeting with others going through similar changes in their mental health. We were therefore very happy to learn about the Adult Cognitive Wellness Centre in Langley in November (2020) and Fred has been attending the weekly morning sessions since then.

Karen is a buoyant, caring Recreation Leader who easily engages participants. She guides them through whole body exercises and a large variety of activities for balance and coordination, mental games and quizzes, musical challenges and craft-making fun. Oh - and there is always a healthy snack. With a focus on the individual, Karen encourages suggestions from both the participants and their families.

Fred looks forward to these sessions as they bring a fresh perspective from what I provide as his wife. And I can visit the Derby Reach Park on the Fraser River, the nearby library, or the extensive shopping area for my own respite.

COVID-19 protocols are meticulously followed so we feel comfortable there.

With thanks for your helpful services,

Dementia-Friendly Adult Day Program

My husband started attending the Adult Cognitive Wellness Centre (A Dementia-Friendly Adult Day Program) last December. I am thrilled that he attends eagerly and has lots to tell me about after I pick him up. The day he attends has mostly male participants. He calls it his guys club.

The staff is attentive, super energetic and caring. I’d also like to thank Massi from Safe Care Home Support for bringing this program to the community.

Virtual Sessions

"The Adult Cognitive Wellness Centre from Langley has offered free cognitive wellness sessions for people with dementia since the beginning of June 2020. These sessions have been extremely therapeutic for my husband, Ed, and an absolute life-saver for me, the caregiver.

My husband looks forward to these sessions with anticipation – I’m sure he wishes it was more than once a week. Amy provides stimulating topics and guides discussion. She comes up with new and varied topics each week. His answers are always valued and as a result he responds to her encouragement. He has so much fun with her and I am so happy that this is continuing while covid dominates our activities. Someday I hope Ed will be able to attend the Wellness Centre in person."

Virtual Wellness Sessions

My dad has been attending the Adult Cognitive Wellness Centre's Virtual Sessions since last May. With the sudden "stay-at-home" orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these meetings were a very welcome addition to our very limited routine. My dad is dealing with moderate dementia, and I was apprehensive at first over how he would react to the wellness sessions. He has loved every meeting though, and looks forward to them every week.

Amy is an amazing facilitator and she has the participants active and lively for the full hour. They talk about everything under the sun, do fun quizzes and trivia, recount stories of their past adventures, and laugh - a lot. Having someone outside our family unit to interact with has been a blessing. Social connections are so important for people with dementia, and the pandemic has made all our normal activities impossible. For that one hour each week, my dad feels like he's gone out and spent time with people, and he is energized by it. He has developed his routine of 'getting ready' for the meeting and is always looking his best while eagerly waiting for the 'door' to open.

We are so grateful for the Virtual Wellness Sessions.
