Dementia-Friendly Day Programs at ACWC:
Supporting Seniors Across Multiple Locations
Caring for a loved one with dementia can be a challenging journey, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. The Adult Cognitive Wellness Center (ACWC) offers Dementia-Friendly Day Programs designed to provide a safe, engaging, and stimulating environment for seniors while giving caregivers much-needed respite.
Our programs are available in multiple locations across the Lower Mainland, with new locations coming soon to better serve our community.
ACWC Dementia-Friendly Day Program Locations
We are proud to offer our services in six cities, with two new locations launching soon:
- Langley City - In partnership with the City of Langley
- South Surrey - In partnership with Aira Peninsula Retirement Residence
- Surrey -In partnership with Chartwell Camellia Retirement Residence
- Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows - In partnership with Ridge Meadows Seniors Society (RMSS)
- Coquitlam -In partnership with the City of Coquitlam
- Abbotsford -In partnership with Clearbrook Church
- Port Coquitlam -In partnership with City of Port Coquitlam Launching Spring 2025
- Vancouver - South Granville Seniors Centre (Launching Spring 2025)
Each location provides a warm, welcoming, and structured environment designed specifically for individuals with dementia.
What is a Dementia-Friendly Day Program?
A Dementia-Friendly Day Program is a structured, therapeutic, and socially engaging program designed for seniors living with mild to moderate dementia or cognitive impairment.
At ACWC, our day programs focus on:
- Cognitive Activities ,Memory exercises, brain games, and stimulating discussions
- Social Engagement - Group activities, storytelling, and interactive sessions
- Physical Wellness Gentle exercises, chair yoga, and movement therapy
- Creative Expression - Music therapy, art workshops, and hands-on activities
- Emotional Support - A compassionate space to foster friendships and emotional well-being
Our programs enhance quality of life by keeping seniors mentally, physically, and socially active while reducing feelings of isolation and anxiety.
Who Can Attend?
Our Dementia-Friendly Day Programs are ideal for:
- ¸ Individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia in the early to moderate stages
- ¸ Seniors experiencing memory loss or mild cognitive impairment
- Those who would benefit from structured engagement, socialization, and brain-boosting activities
- Families looking for daytime support and respite care
We offer flexible attendance options, including half-day and full-day programs, to accommodate different needs.
If Can’t Attend In-Person? We’ll Come to You!
If you or your loved one are unable to attend our day programs in person, we also offer 1:1 therapeutic recreation service at home. Our certified Recreation Therapists will come to your home to provide personalized cognitive and recreational activities, ensuring your loved one remains engaged and cared for in the comfort of their own space.
